I’ve been seeing a lot of posts from friends witnessing way too many people out on the streets and in generally populated areas, including lounging in parks. Apparently, there are still people who don’t understand social distancing. The only times you should be going out is for groceries/supplies and exercise.

If you miss interacting with you friends, you can have virtual coffee or a Netflix Party. Platforms like Google Hangouts, Zoom or Facebook allow video conferencing.

Thanks to all of the people who did panic shopping when this all went down a little over a week ago, many of us are struggling to find staples on the grocery shelves and are resorting to making meals with what ever is in our cupboard, fridge and freezer. This isn’t completely a bad thing, you finally get to use that can of heart of palm you bought a year ago. Why did I buy that again?

I’ve always had to be resourceful when it comes to cooking. I’ve been on my own since I was 18 and money has been hard to come by on many occasions, so I’ve had to be creative with food. I always managed and never went hungry thankfully. There have been a few times in our history where we were going through wars or The Great Depression and putting food in your cupboards was beyond desperate times. During those times, homemakers had to make due with what they could get their hands on. I’ve been researching some of these recipes and below is some of what I found.

Being stuck at home, a lot of us will being going stir crazy, if you haven’t already. Many are used to regular social gatherings or the freedom to go to a gallery, museum, theatre, movie theatre, or restaurant at will. When this is suddenly taken away, it can be depressing and make you feel completely isolated from the rest of the world. Though this isn’t quite the same as physically going there, and being there is always better, several places have created virtual tours. It is a great way to spend an hour and an amazing way to distract your mind for a while.

I’ve always been a strong believer that there are certain skills that we all should have. Sewing, knitting, how to grow food, how to cook/bake, how to start a fire and how to use a hammer and nail. Sadly, these aren’t skills that are regularly taught any longer. I was fortunate to either learn them at home or in school. I really wish they still have shop and home ec in school! However and thanks to YouTube, you can still learn all of those things, especially sewing.

Below are a few of my favourite YouTube channels. Check them out and give sewing a try.

Gertie is by far my favourite pattern maker. You can buy her sewing patterns here. {including PDF} Once you do, she has sewing tutorials for a bunch of them. In the end you will have a gorgeous garment to wear.

Evelyn Wood is a sewing genius. On her channel you will not only learn sewing basics, you will also learn how to refashion thrifted items!

A Vintage Vanity is a lot of fun. Her channel is a mix of sewing and other vintage things such as hair and other craft tutorials.

Liz Von Villas is another fun channel. Yes… I think you are seeing a theme here. I sew vintage reproduction!

As we have all found out over the last week, COVID-19 is changing how we interact with each other. For some it will be really hard not being out and and being social. For other’s like me, the eternal introvert, I’m ok not being social. However, whether or not you are ok with being stuck at home, boredom will set in. Personally, I have a long list of things to keep me occupied. I’ve also given myself a bit of a loose schedule for each day, however, I, like everyone else needs stimulation. Over the next few days, I am going to share different things I’m doing, as well as lists of things we all can do to keep ourselves entertained over the next while!

Today’s post is all about music.

Band Camp Is doing an amazing thing. They are bringing awareness to musicians. Due to COVID-19 performers revue streams will be drying up. Go give this a read to see how you can help out.

Sketchbook Challenge

Six days ago I started a new challenge. This time it’s to get my drawing skills back to what they used to be — currently, they aren’t that great. I will get back there and this is the perfect way to do it. Articulations — an art store and gallery in my area — is having a sketchbook challenge for the month of March. How to get there:
See-Scape is located at 347 Keele Street and the event space is on the second floor. There are a few ways to get to See-Scape.

From Keele Station — take the 41, 89 or 989 bus north. Get off just before Dundas. It is about a 5 minute bus ride from the station. (You can also walk from Keele Station in approximately 15 minutes).

From Dundas West Station — Take the 40 Junction bus. Get off at Keele, then walk south on Keele. See-Scape is a few buildings down. It is approximately a 10 minute bus ride from the station.

Parking:There is a Green P parking lot beside See-Scape and a few other paid parking lots close by.
